From Ortenberg to America
Johannes Baptiste Bahr, born 1827 in 
Ortenberg, Kingdom of Baden , immigrated to the United States in 1847 on the ship Oneida from Le Havre, France, with his siblings and their father Thomas BAHR. Remember, Germany was not a country until 1871. Prior to that, the country was a patchwork quilt of Dukedoms, Kingdoms and states, where various dialects were spoken.
